What do your afternoons look like? 6&6 afternoons are usually busy with kids, practices and life. This “Day in the Life of 6&6 Series” hopefully will motivate or encourage you to make positive changes in your life.
Mary’s mentioned drinking a green smoothie every morning. All 6&6 gals start our day this way. I drink one in the afternoon several days a week also. I love a green smoothie packed with protein after a difficult functional fitness workout too. My afternoon muscle-building smoothie recipe:
Green Muscle Smoothie
1/8c to 1/4c ground Organic oats
1T ground flax seeds
1-2c kale or spinach
3T whey protein
handful of frozen Organic berries
A great way to squeeze a workout into your afternoon is to use your surroundings. I love garage workouts. You can do this workout in your living room while kids are napping or at the park while they play.
5 minutes of jogging in place or running laps
1 minute circuit:
Decline push-ups (feet elevated higher than chest)
Alternating Jump lunges
5 minutes of jogging, jump rope or intense cardio
5 minutes intense cardio
That’s 33 minutes of your life and your muscles are pumped, your body is sweating and your workout is done! Remove the excuses and just squeeze in a workout on most days. I shoot for 6 days a week and am happy if I workout 5 days per week. This is a great workout while sitting at sports practice. You can lengthen it by doing 8-10 minutes of running, high knees, jogging in between sets. The bottom line: just get it in!
After my boys get home at 3:00, its time for dinner! I know it seems crazy to eat dinner at 3:00 but try it. Mary got me hooked on this practice and we do it twice a week during sports season. My 3 boys are always starving when they get home from school so we eat a hardy, nutritious meal that fills them up. Crock pot meals work great too! A recipe that I make frequently is Lindsay’s salsa chicken. Add 1 cup of homemade organic salsa to large crock pot full of frozen organic chicken breast and cook on low for 6-8 hours. Dan and I eat this with quinoa and salad. My boys like chicken burritos with shredded lettuce, cheese and more salsa!
Afternoons can be hectic. Make the most of yours with these 6&6 tips!! Enjoy your afternoon!
