All of the girls here at 6&6 are participating in the Southern California Ragner Relay Race this Friday through Saturday. The relay begins in Long Beach, travels east along the 91- freeway, south on the I-15, lacing through San Marcos and Carlsbad, turning south on the I-5, and running all the way to the Embarcadero in San Diego!!! The two hundred mile course is run by a twelve member team. Each team is broken-up into two vans, consisting of six racers, each team member runs a total of three legs. Our team is the Temecula Beer Buns, make sure you look for our name in the winner circle!!!! (I am kidding, but a girl can dream!)
Our name is derived by combining the name of our running group, The Temecula Beer Runners https://www.facebook.com/pages/Temecula-Beer-Runners, and our fabulous sponsor, Great Harvest Bread Company. If you have not tried their bread, salads, or sandwiches you need to get there today, they are amazing!!! https://www.facebook.com/greatharvesttemecula
We have been planning for this race for the past six months. Originally I was l running a leg that had a total milage of eleven miles. Not too hard I thought, I completed a marathon, and many half marathons, so this should be “easy peazy lemon squeeze” as my six year old would say. However, on Monday I received word from our beloved Captain Charlie, that the legs were moved around due to an injured runner. I am now leg #12, consisting of an eighteen miles. Eighteen is much larger than eleven when you are speaking about running milage. Panic began to set in and then I was reminded of the countless number of people who would give anything to be able to push themselves on a beautiful run and run eighteen miles.
No matter how far I have to run, or how long it might take, I know I am running in the spirit of Boston. I am able to spend over twenty four hours with good friends, making lasting memories I will cherish forever!!!
If you are in the Long Beach to San Diego area and get the urge to run in the middle of the night, let us know! We would love to see your bright and shinning faces running along side us!!!
