Benefits of working out with a group
Throughout my early fitness life, I have always been single. I never wanted a partner, fearing it might slow down my progress, or they would not show up, or be late. It was not until I discovered the benefits of working-out with a group that my mind changed.
I realized I ran further, easier, and quicker when I had someone else to push me. I lifted heavier weights, trying to keep up with the competition. The number one benefit I discovered, I made friends, with like minded people, this is how I met Kellie and Mary.
Kellie was training for a half marathon, and I was in a fitness slump and decided to join her for a run. The run was four miles long and almost killed me. I wanted to die, my legs screamed, and I wanted to puke, but I kept up!
After the four mile run, Kellie told me she was running the San Diego Rock & Roll Marathon, 26.2 miles, was she crazy?!? Since my attitude is always “go big or go home” I decided to register that day and the pain staking, time consuming, training began. Less than twelve weeks later, we completed that marathon. We never stopped and continued to run because we had each other. I wanted to quit many times, and so did she, however together we pushed past that feeling and completed the long run because we had each other.
Now a group fitness instructor myself, at http:www.alywarriors.com , and Mary a group instructor at http://www.DrMaryOsfitness.com, we personally see the amazing benefits working out with a group can have.
#1 ~ Accountability if a client missed a class, the rest of the group is concerned and voices their opinion when the client returns next session.
#2 ~ It is fun!
#3 ~ Making Friends, I have seen amazing friendships emerge from training groups!
#4 ~Watching others progress with their goals and being a part of it.
#5 ~ Healthy Competition, pushing you through your standards YOU set for your own life.
Setting goals and achieving them with friends can change your fitness goals. I never thought the three of us would have done a bikini competition together after, kicking butt in a boxing gym, but it was fun and we did it together! I challenge you to try a group fitness class near you!!!
