Kellie and I co-ordinate the lower school PE program for ours kids charter school. Part of our commitment to this involves teaching PE all day on Wednesday. We love doing this. We get to have fun with our kids, get to know their friends and maybe even inspire a few kids to incorporate fitness into their everyday lives:)
However, it is also tiring and some students can be a little draining. We have found that a prayer or positive intention at the start of the day goes a long way, as does the promise of a fresh cup of tea and a treat at the end of our day!
However, there is one class of students who are immature for their age, and they challenge me even week!! I have had many moments where it was hard for me to reign in my temper with them., LOL. Even Kellie was scared of me once or twice !!!
Obviously at the half way point in the year I had to realize that all our tactics thus far to promote good sportsmanship, maturity and eliminate tattle-tailing were not working. Time to make a change!! Dorky Mary decided it was time to make an appearance!! I have a lot of silly mantras or affirmations that I have used to promote a positive attitude in the past and have learned a few more along the way!
So I decided to try one with this class!!! It sort of works for them, but it totally works for me!!!! Some of the kids hate it (the same ones who whine of course!) and some love it !!! It’s totally dorky but infectious Check it out on the you tube video here. You can check out my new do, as well!
Other fun affirmations are “I’m alive, I’m awake and I feel great!!!” and “if you act enthusiastic, you will feel enthusiastic”!!! I got that last one form Lindsay:) You got to clap as you say it.
Of course these affirmations are not just for children. We can apply them to ourselves and use them to help us achieve goals we have in life. Kellie gave me a great one for when I’m running and getting tired, “I feel great, I can do this all day”. Repeat a few times and you will feel stronger and will breathe easier. To maintain weight or loss weight you can tell yourself “ I weight X pounds and eat and exercise accordingly”. Similarly in your business or personal life you can create an affirmation of what you want to be or have, and adopt a mindset of having already received or achieved this goal. The power of the mind is quite astounding. Do not leave it underutilized!! So even though the mantras in the videos are about changing winey kids into enthusiastic kids, you can use the same principals to help change your own behavior. Have fun with it and send us a few of your affirmations!
