Do you have a lot of extra time on your hands to make a full meal for you and your entire family day after day, week after week? I know I don’t! With three kids all participating in different sports and activities on opposite sides of the city I am lucky if they make it to the right place at the right time. With work, homework, family, friends, and life our days are booked from beginning to end.
So how can you prepare a delicious, home cooked meal for your family when you have little time? You must PREPARE!!!! The number one thing I try to help my clients with is how to prepare food.
The Preparation Bible:
1: Choose one day to create a menu of four to five meals, and create a list of ALL of the ingredients needed for these meals.
2: Go to the store and buy all of the food. Make it simple go one time so you do not have to take time out of your daily activities to run and get the missing ingredient.
3: Set aside time and wash and chop all of your veggies, fruits, and ingredients you might need in your menu.
4: Batching ~ During the first night of cooking for the week, I cook a large batch of meat. I will grill a large amount of chicken that can be used in at minimum two recipes. Why take time and cook twice? For instance my menu might include chicken tacos and grilled chicken with sweet potatoes and veggies. I cook a batch of sweet potatoes so they are ready to eat for lunch or dinner throughout the week. I batch a pot of rice or quinoa, and add the already chopped veggies. This is an easy grab and go method for healthy “Fast Food”!!!!
My fridge is full of cooked meat, chopped clean veggies, a rice/quinoa side, and sweet potatoes. When you prepare ahead of time this make life just a little more simple. Fast food does not have to come via drive through it can come through your own fridge.
