Mary, Lindsay and I started a running group in Temecula called The Temecula Beer Runners in 2011. Impressed? Its really not a big deal. It started as a Facebook group for our Tough Mudder race. We would post training runs and get togethers with the other people who were running. After the Tough Mudder, we changed the Facebook group to a Facebook Page called Temecula Beer Runners. And voila—the Beer Runners were born.
Our last run was at our favorite local Irish pub and we had 25 people come. It was a blast! So we encourage you to do the same in your community. It doesn’t have to be fancy or complex with meeting minutes or a corporate image. It just has to be fun. Mary, Lindsay and I love meeting new runners in our community. Each month we change the bar, brewery or restaurant and sample all the amazing types of beer our town offers. The format is easy. We meet outside, run 2-3 miles then head inside and drink a beer.
We use it for longer races too. For the Ragnar Relay, we would run 5 miles together, meet up with some Beer Runners and run another 5 miles. It has proven a great networking opportunity too. We’ve connected people in similar industries who run with us. We now have a logo and are selling great shirts through the 6&6 Apparel line.
We hope we’ve inspired you to start your own running/exercise/fitness group in your area! Send us a picture and let us know what works for you. Thanks for being a loyal 6&6 fan.
