Balance is such a hard thing to get just right. How do you relax a little, without losing all your motivation and momentum? How do you push through tough stages without getting burnout?
The reality is, there is no generic formula. It is something you have to figure out for your self. But, I can guarantee, that if you are not mindful of where your balance should be, you will find yourself in a state of some type of distress.
For me, it’s difficult to be perfectly balanced every day, as life happens and you have to adapt. But I do try to keep my week somewhat balanced and if that goes off track, I adjust my schedule so that my month becomes balanced.
I am a clean eater, which is a topic covered my Kellie earlier this year -http://6kidsand6packsplus2.com/eat-clean-vs-paleok/. I feel great eating this way. I am rarely sick and I typically have lots of energy. However, I also like to indulge in beer, wine, good quality chocolate, home baked cakes and Trader Joes Chocolate Croissants (mmmmmm- delicious!). And I allow myself to indulge on a weekly basis. I don’t go nuts, stuffing my face with everything in sight, but I do enjoy being “bad”! I believe it is vital to allow yourself to get off the wagon on a periodic basis.
What works for me, is to eat well during the week and relax on Friday night with a glass of wine or beer. I also usually enjoy a delicious meal with my husband on our Saturday date nights, as well as our family’s traditional Sunday lunch after church (btw my kids much prefer going to church when they know we enjoy a nice lunch afterwards:)!).
I recommend that you evaluate your eating habits, and decide which treats you want to keep and enjoy then from time to time.
The same idea applies to my exercise routine. When I am not training for a specific event I workout about 4-5 times a week. I do workouts that fit my schedule and I always give myself time off. Guilt free! My body needs to rest after events! So does yours.
